Town Clerk's Letter to Alabama Public Works Board Urging Approval of Waterworks Loan
April 29, 1935 · 1 page
Synopsis
A typed letter dated April 29, 1935 from the Town Clerk of Wedowee to Robert Harris, Secretary of the Public Works Board at the State Capitol in Montgomery. It describes Wedowee as incorporated about 1900, with about 500 people, and as the county seat of Randolph County. The letter says the town had applied to the P.W.A. about a year earlier for a loan to build waterworks, and that the state board approved the application but the federal government had not yet accepted it. It reports that 107 citizens had signed up to take water at $2.00 per month, that the town had no debt, and that the loan would be repaid from the project itself without competing with private business. The clerk asks for help speeding up the application, noting that Mr. D. T. Ware and Mr. Hugh Morris had recommended contacting Harris. The letter documents local support and the delays in funding Wedowee's water system.

Wedowee, Alabama. April, 29-th 1935. Mr. Robert Harris, Secretary of Public Works Board, State Capitol, Montgomery, Ala. Dear Sirs The Town of Wedowee, Ala, (Randolph County,) was incorporated about 1900 and has a population of aproximately 500 people. The town made application to the P.W.A for a loan to construct water works for the said town about one year ago. The application was Ok ed by the State Board but has not been accepted by the U.S. up to this date. We have 107 cétizens who have signed to take water at the rate of $ 2.00 per month. The town is not in debt and is the County seat of Randolph County, and in my opinion would easily liquidate the loan if granted. In my opinion this would be one of the best projects for the Government to invest in as it will not be in competition with any other business and is very much needed, and will be repaid out of the project its self. So please give our application your consideration and help, we shall apprecéate it very much if you can see fit to allow the same. Mr. D.T. Ware and Mr. Hugh Morris have suggested to us that you might be able to help us , and to spped the matter up for us also. Thanking you, Yours Truly, Town Clerk. Wedowee, Alabama.
