Synopsis

A typed letter (unsigned file copy) from W. H. Perry, Mayor of the Town of Wedowee, to the J. B. McCrary Company in Atlanta. Perry writes about the town's well, for which McCrary had installed the waterworks 'about 4 years ago.' The well was no longer supplying enough water, and he asks whether lowering the pump, a Cook's pump, would increase the flow, and what parts and materials would be needed to do so, requesting the company's advice. The sheet is reused letterhead: the reverse is a July 31, 1940 letter on W. H. Perry's own Furniture and Home Supplies business letterhead asking Perfection Mattress & Spring Co. of Birmingham for a price on a bed spring and mattress, unrelated to the water system. The letter dates the original water works to about 1936 and records early supply problems with the town well.

The J.B.McCrary Company.
Atlanta, Georgia.
Dear Sirs;
I am writing you in regard to our well, for which you installed the waterworks about 4 years ago. The well is not supplying enough water now, and I'm taking it for granted you knew or rather have the information concerning this well, and do you believe it would increase the flow of water by lowering the pump in it ? The pump is a Cook's pump, and if we decided to lower pump, what parts and material would be necessary for us to do so?
We would appreciate a letter from you advising us what you think is best to do, in other words, what your opinion is concerning same.
Yours very truly,
W.H.Perry,
Mayor.
Town of Wedowee.

Reading notes

Whether Mayor W. H. Perry is the same person as the 'Mr Hugh Perry the mayor' named in the July 1940 appearance bond (folder 21) is not stated, though it appears likely.
