Wedowee Waterworks System Record Map with House Number and Owner List
July 1940 · 1 page
Synopsis
A blueprint segment (about 15.8 x 27.3 inches) titled 'Wedowee, Ala. Waterworks System Record Map,' traced by J. W. Goodwin Engineering Co. of Birmingham at a scale of 1 inch = 20 feet and dated July 1940. It shows Wedowee's water mains, made of 8-inch, 6-inch, and 2-inch cast-iron pipe, along with gate valves, fire hydrants, fittings, and an elevated fire tank, laid out across the town's numbered streets and avenues. A main runs north out of town along the highway. Numbered circles mark service connections, keyed to a typed list of 75 'House Number & Owner' entries. The list names residents and businesses, including the Courthouse, County Jail, Bank of Wedowee, Huckerby Hotel, Wedowee Drug Store, several filling stations, cafes, and the Wedowee Gin Co. This map appears to record the system as built after the New Deal-era waterworks project and is a key source for who the first water customers were.

Reading notes
Small pipe-station and fitting annotations on the map are too small to read at this resolution. Some owner names may be misspelled on the original (e.g. 'Brittian', 'Finche', 'Mostellar'). The street names shown match the numbered grid; other labels are not legible.
